Communication from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

In response to journalistic questions regarding the speech of Mr. Rosen Plevneliev, made within the VIII Global Baku Forum, we would like to clarify that Mr. Plevneliev participates in the forum in a personal capacity and, accordingly, his personal opinion is expressed there, which in no way engages the Bulgarian institutions and the state. At the same time, we take this opportunity to note that there is no change in the official and well-known Bulgarian position on the issue and use the opportunity to recall it:
The Republic of Bulgaria traditionally maintains friendly and partnership relations with both the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia and does not take a position in favour of either side in the disputes between them. At the same time, we believe that a full and lasting solution to the conflict between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, including the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, can only be achieved through peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group and the European Union, which plays a complementary role in settling relations between the countries in the region and its post-conflict stabilization and recovery.
