The Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev received the Ambassador of India to Bulgaria Sanjay Rana. A wide range of issues related to bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as in the context of the strategic partnership between the European Union and India, were discussed during the meeting.
Minister Stoev stressed the traditionally friendly and stable relations between the two countries, the similarity and closeness of positions on a wide range of international issues and initiatives. "India is our priority partner in the Asia-Pacific region and Bulgaria relies on its expertise in the specifics of the region and regional cooperation," our Foreign Minister said.
During the conversation, the possibilities for deepening the relations in trade and investments between the two countries were also discussed. The Bulgarian side stressed the importance of Indian investments in our country. Ambassador Rana, for his part, noted India's interest in the Bulgarian market. Even during the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Indian investors have decided to start new businesses in Bulgaria. Among them is a large Indian company in the field of technology, which will create over 150 jobs.
The meeting also discussed the situation in Afghanistan and the great role of India over the past 20 years in supporting the Afghan people by funding a number of educational and infrastructure projects. The view was expressed that the current crisis needed to be resolved quickly through supranational cooperation mechanisms.
Minister Stoev wished fruitful work to Ambassador Rana and expressed confidence that the broad political and economic contacts between Bulgaria and India will be reactivated as soon as possible, when the conditions with the COVID-19 pandemic allow it.
