Minister Stoev received the Ambassador of Denmark Jes Brogaard Nielsen

28 October 2021 News

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark Jes Brogaard Nielsen. Cooperation between the two countries both bilaterally and within the European Union was discussed during the meeting.

Minister Stoev stressed the important role of the Kingdom of Denmark for Bulgaria as the only country in the Nordic Council that is a member of the EU and NATO.

„There is a huge untapped potential in our bilateral relations. In terms of energy transition, Bulgaria sees a partner in the face of Denmark, which is a leading EU country in the development of green technologies," said our Foreign Minister.

During the conversation, joint initiatives were discussed in connection with the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Denmark, which we celebrate in 2021. Confidence was expressed that the visit of the Danish Crown Prince Frederik and his wife on the occasion of the bilateral anniversary, which was postponed due to the pandemic, will be realized as soon as possible when conditions allow.

Minister Stoev stressed the active political dialogue between the two countries and the deepening of economic ties. The appointment of a sales representative at our embassy in Denmark was also noted, which will contribute to the opening of new opportunities in economic exchange.

Topics of discussion included issues on the European agenda, including measures to tackle the economic consequences of the pandemic and the European integration of the Western Balkan countries.

At the end of the meeting, Svetlan Stoev, who before being appointed to the current post was our country's ambassador to Copenhagen, wished a successful mandate to Ambassador Nielsen.
