Deputy Foreign Minister Zaritsa Dinkova praised the development of our relations with Argentina and Brazil and congratulated their Ambassadors Alfredo Nestor Atanasoff and Maria Fontenele Reis on the occasion of the anniversaries of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Bulgaria.
This year marks the 90th anniversary of the establishment of our relations with Argentina and the 87th anniversary with Brazil.
"Today, Argentina and Brazil occupy a prominent place in the foreign policy of our country. Our relations with these countries are based on common values, important aspects of political and cultural similarity, and have promising opportunities for shared economic development. They are characterised by joint hard work to address the many challenges the world is facing." This was said by Zaritsa Dinkova, who together with the two ambassadors participated in an international conference at the University of National and World Economy on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the largest interstate union in South America - Mercosur.
During the conference, Deputy Minister Dinkova gave a lecture on "European Union - Mercosur". It analyses the predominantly positive but ambiguous response of EU Member States to the forthcoming ratification of the document, as well as the most significant results of the EU-Latin America Strategic Partnership: development of an intensive network for bi-regional integration, including in the digital, scientific and educational spheres, ever closer links between the economies of the two regions (the EU is the third largest trading partner and the leading investor in Latin America and the Caribbean) , increasing coordination within the UN, regulatory convergence in the field of environmental protection, etc. All this is a prerequisite for constructive efforts to overcome the serious challenges the partnership between the two regions is facing.
The EU-Mercosur agreement is the first of its kind for association of the EU with another region. The Mercosur countries have a population of over 260 million. The region is the seventh largest economy in the world and the fifth largest market outside the EU.
