The Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev received the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bulgaria Eleonora Mitrofanova, with whom they discussed the development of relations between Bulgaria and Russia on the basis of equal political dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation, including in the field of tourism, culture, science and education.
"There are long-standing historical traditions, cultural closeness and friendly relations between Bulgaria and Russia," said Minister Stoev, emphasising that in its relations with Russia our country is guided by its national interests and the common policy of the EU and NATO member states.
"We want to develop relations based on equality and pragmatism," said our Foreign Mminister. He stressed the need for a constructive dialogue between the European Union and Russia on international issues of regional and global importance. "The global challenges we face require a united approach and solidarity," Stoev said.
Among the topics of conversation was the intensification of tourist exchange in the conditions of improving the epidemic situation in Bulgaria. Minister Stoev stressed that the Bulgarian side has taken all necessary steps to ensure the safety of tourists during the summer season. In this regard, he recalled that the Bulgarian authorities have made a proposal to Russia to resume regular civilian flights between the two countries and asked the Russian Embassy for assistance.
In response, Ambassador Mitrofanova assured that the Russian Embassy is actively engaged and assists in the positive resolution of the issue of the resumption of flights to Bulgaria.
