27 October 2020 News

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Petko Doykov accepted copies of the letters of credence of the new Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ireland to Bulgaria Martina Feeney.

„Congratulations on your appointment as Ambassador of Ireland to Bulgaria. I would like to wish you luck in your further endeavours,“ Petko Doykov said.

In the talks with the new Irish Ambassador, Deputy Minster Doykov expressed readiness to sustain the relations of friendship between Bulgaria and Ireland, both in bilateral terms and in the framework of the EU and international organisations.

The scope of the meeting covered the economic and social ramifications of COVID-19 as well as the potential between Bulgaria and Ireland for deepening of bilateral economic relations in the area of trade and investment.

The two discussed the post-Brexit priorities of both states, the EU policy on migration and topical issues related to the Western Balkans.

Ambassador Martina Feeney thanked for the warm welcome and expressed hope that the two states would soon be able to effectively have the planned celebrations related to the 30th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Ireland but were impeded by the pandemic.
