Ambassador Plamen Bonchev Presents Letters of Credence to King of Belgium

Plamen Bonchev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to Belgium, presented his Letters of Credence to King Philippe of Belgium on October 6, 2020.
At the brief private face-to-face meeting, Ambassador Plamen Bonchev extended the warmest greetings and wishes on behalf of the President and the Prime Minister of Republic of Bulgaria to the King of Belgium and the Government of Belgium, assuring King Philippe that he would be most esteemed and welcome guest in our country. The King of Belgium shared memories and very positive impressions from prior visits to Bulgaria as Prince and Heir Apparent. Mutual appreciation of the traditionally good and friendly relations established between Belgium and newly-liberated Bulgaria back in 19th c. was expressed, a token of these relations being the shared motto of both countries: „United We Stand Strong.“ These relations continue to deepen today, in bilateral terms and in terms of our EU and NATO partnership alike.
King Philippe of Belgium was keen to learn about the efforts of the Government of Bulgaria to tackle the COVID-19 crisis and to promote the recovery of economy. The Bulgarian Ambassador described the national measures undertaken, highlighting the opportunities the EU provides to its members to jointly address the economic and social consequences of the pandemic and to lay the foundations of a modern and more sustainable Europe. In this context, the large achievements in investment, trade and tourism was brought forward as solid basis for tapping into the significant potential for expansion of bilateral cooperation. The good prospects and specific projects for strengthening the exchange in education and culture were noted too. The discussion also touched upon topical foreign policy aspects and prospects for collaboration of the two countries to promote security and stability of regions neighbouring the EU.
Ambassador Bonchev and King Philippe concurred on the importance of dynamic partnership between Bulgaria and Belgium in rendering the historically established connections between the two countries even stronger and more sustainable.
Towards the end of the audience the King of Belgium wished successful mandate to the Bulgarian Ambassador.
