The Bulgarian Embassy in Berlin exhibits paintings from its collection for the first time

Twenty-two paintings from the collection of the Bulgarian Embassy in Germany were exhibited for the first time to the general public at the Bulgarian Institute for Culture in Berlin until 27 October.
„In the times of pandemic, people become particularly appreciative of the opportunity to get in touch with art. We hope that there will be great interest in the exhibition“, said Ms. Elena Shekerletova, Ambassador of Bulgaria to Berlin.
Authors of the paintings were Bulgarian artists who were trendsetters in Bulgarian fine art during the first half of the 20th century and some of the most talented representatives of the generations of the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. The highlights of the exhibition were two water colour paintings by Konstantin Shtarkelov. They were exhibited just on the day of the official opening of the exhibition in connection with the presentation of the catalogue Konstantin Shtarkelov. The Solitary Wanderer – 130 Years since the Birth of the Artist by Ms. Shezhana Yoveva-Dimitrova, Director of the State Institute for Culture to the MFA, and Ms. Adelina Fileva, Director of the Sofia City Art Gallery.
As well as the works of Shtarkelov, visitors will be able to enjoy paintings by Yordan Geshev, Boris Ivanov, Rafael Mihailov, Vasil Stoilov, Ivan Tabakov, Zrdavko Alexandrov, Svetlin Rusev, Naiden Petkov, Ioan Leviev, Emil Stoychev, Yordan Katsamunski, Hristo Todorov, Mitko Panayotov, Georgi Baev, Vladimir Goev, Encho Pironkov, Daria Vasilyanska, Edmond Demirdzhian, Tsvyatko Dochev, Kalina Taseva.
The paintings belong to the Art Fund of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The collection includes over 3 000 works of Bulgarian classic and modern artists and it is among the richest collections of Bulgarian fine art.
The exhibition in Berlin is a part of the initiative of the State Institute for Culture to the Minister of Foreign Affairs to exhibit works from the collection of Bulgarian Embassies to the general public. Curator of the exhibition is the art expert Ms. Iskra Trayanova.
