Deputy Minister Georg Georgiev receives the newly appointed Ambassadors of Australia and Chile

Mr. Georg Georgiev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs received copies of the Letters of Credence of the newly appointed Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Commonwealth of Australia H.E. Mr. Arthur Spirou and of Chile H.E. Mr. Jorge Alejandro Tagle Canelo.

Deputy Minister Georgiev expressed high appreciation of the relations of partnership and cooperation existing between Bulgaria and Australia on a bilateral basis and within the framework of the EU-Australia and NATO-Australia dialogue. He discussed with Ambassador Spirou based in Athens the opportunities for expanding the trade and economic cooperation and signing double taxation avoidance and social security agreements. It was also noted that the 10,000-strong Bulgarian community in Australia, the most numerous in the Asia-Pacific region, represented a natural bridge between the two countries.

„More and more Bulgarians visit Australia. Your country is very interesting to us, regardless of the great distance between us. This is a good reason for making further effort to promote also the tourist exchange between the two countries“, said Deputy Minister Georgiev.

At the meeting with the Ambassador of Chile, Deputy Minister Georgiev emphasized the need for deepening the bilateral relations between the two countries. The coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the national economic all over the world were also discussed at the meeting.

 „Chile is a strategic country in the region of Latin America. We have an open space for bilateral cooperation. Both countries develop very rapidly in the economic field, creating a potential for developing our bilateral relations“, said Mr. Georgi Georgiev.

Deputy Minister Georgiev assured the Ambassadors of Australia and Chile that they were always welcome to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and wished all success to their missions.
