25 September 2020 News

„We have two urgent tasks to continue the fight against the spread of the coronavirus and to work for the recovery of our economies. We need coordination and cooperation for both of them. Although we need to ease the restrictions and ensure predictability to transport, tourism and business, we should apply stringent health criteria and guarantee the safety of the citizens“. That was the statement of Mr. Petko Doykov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs at the informal online meeting of the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Member States of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC).

The main topic of the discussion was „Enhancing our cooperation post-COVID-19: the need of innovative priorities of action to be addressed in the framework of the BSEC Organization“.

Deputy Minister Doykov said at the meeting that Bulgaria was a strong supporter of the further development of the relations between the BSEC and the EU aimed at fostering stability, prosperity and the sustainable development of the wider Black Sea Region.

„The BSEC continues to be the most representative, comprehensive and institutionally developed organization in the wider Black Sea Region which has proved its outstanding importance for the promotion of the stability and economic prosperity of the region“, said Mr. Petko Doykov.

Deputy Minister Doykov noted that, being the coordinator of the BSEC Working Group on Information and Communication Technologies, Bulgaria was willing to turn that cooperation format into a successful took for the exchange of ideas and information.

„COVID-19 has increased the global dependence on information and communication technologies that enable people to be productive and working even at times of social and physical distancing and mass mobility restrictions“, said Mr. Petko Doykov.

He expressed high appreciation of the proactive approach and the achievements of the Romanian BSEC Chairmanship in Office during which a solution was found to the issue of the rotational BSEC Chairmanship in Office and the progress in important spheres of cooperation, such as transport, small and medium-sized enterprises, culture, and tourism.
