28 July 2020 News

The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria has adopted an ordinance approving additional expenditure in 2020 to fund activities related to the Republic of Bulgaria’s accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The funds thus approved stand at BGN 1 258 014 and will be spent on measures provided for under the Roadmap for Bulgaria’s accession to the OECD as well as the Action Plan covering the period until the end of 2020, which was coordinated with the OECD. The funds will be used to support Bulgaria’s participation in various bodies of the Organization, to join new committees and legal instruments, to ensure participation in forums of the OECD, to perform peer reviews on behalf of the OECD in important spheres of Bulgaria’s socio-economic life.

Membership in the OECD is one of Bulgaria’s main foreign policy priorities and being invited to begin negotiations is one of the government’s most prominent objectives at present.

37 countries, including the most advanced economies of Europe, Asia and North and South America, are members of the OECD at present.
