During his meeting with the Moldovan Ambassador, Deputy Minister Doykov expressed readiness to maintain the excellent level of cooperation to-date. “We would like to continue to work together to strengthen of our bilateral relations. I must also note the traditionally friendly relations with Moldova as well as the active political dialogue between our two countries at the highest level in recent years,” Doykov said. He pointed out the important role of the community of more than 60 000 Bulgarians in Moldova as a bridge for friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The two diplomats expressed satisfaction with the rising goods exchange, whose potential is much greater than the volume achieved to-date. Bilateral trade grew by 6.7 percent in 2019. Bilateral trade stood at USD 136.8 million for the period between January and December 2019.
During his conversation with Ambassador Al-Ketoub, Deputy Minister Doykov noted that the dialogue and communication between Bulgaria and the UAE has remained uninterrupted despite the coronavirus pandemic. He pointed out as an example the conversation over the phone earlier this year between Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces, and the conversation between Ministers of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Petko Doykov noted that the coordination of the draft intergovernmental agreement on mutual protection of investments was nearing its final phases. He went on to add that work should continue on coordinating a number of other bilateral documents. “We rely on a more active search for possibilities for development of cooperation in the area of security of the food supply. Bulgaria has significant experience in the fields of medical science and clinical testing, which may serve as a prerequisite for successful cooperation in the development of vaccines and medicines, including for combating the COVID-19 pandemic,” Deputy Minister Doykov said. He expressed satisfaction with the excellent cooperation between Bulgaria and the UAE at regional fora and in the framework of international organizations. Ambassador Al-Ketoub expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and for the excellent cooperation with Bulgarian institutions. During their talks the two officials also discussed issues concerning the prospects for the development of trade and tourism and travel in the context of the COVID-19 setting.
Doykov wished success to the newly appointed ambassadors of Moldova and the UAE in the discharge of their official duties in Bulgaria.
