Bulgaria Raises the Issue of Reopening Checkpoints along the Greek Border

03 July 2020 News

Deputy Foreign Minister Petko Doykov raised the issue of reopening of the checkpoints at the Bulgarian border with Greece in a discussion with Greek Ambassador Dimitrios Chronopoulos. The Ambassador was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today in connection with the new Greek entry rules.

Deputy Minister Doykov pointed out the difficult situation at the Kulata-Promachon Checkpoint and the long lines, which caused great discomfort to travelers. The Bulgarian side also raised the question about the need to establish separate corridors for EU nationals and for third-country nationals in order to make crossing the border faster.

Ambassador Chronopoulos expressed concern about the situation and explained that the new Greek entry rules applied to everyone regardless of their nationality and were aimed at controlling the situation with the coronavirus after the Greece opened to foreign tourists. Ambassador Chronopoulos promised to convey the issues raised by Bulgaria to Athens and expressed hope that a solution would be found soon.
