Minister Zaharieva: Bulgarian visas to be issued in 15 Chinese cities

Bulgarian visas can in the very near future be obtained in 15 cities across China, announced Ekaterina Zaharieva, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs at a meeting with Lachezar Dinev, President of the Bulgarian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI). Currently, Bulgarian visas are only issued in the capital Beijing and in Shanghai.
‘Cultural diplomacy, tourism and especially education are among the activities pursued as a key priority by this Ministry,’ Minister Zaharieva underscored, adding that the efforts undertaken by her institution will contribute significantly to the Chinese tourists’, students’ and business people’s familiarity with Bulgaria.
The cities where it will be possible to obtain a Bulgarian visa in the future are Guangzhou, Jinan, Kunming, Nanjing , Beijing, Xi'an, Wuhan, Fuzhou, Quanzhou, Changsha, Chongqing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Shenyang.
Ekaterina Zaharieva also underscored how important it is for Bulgaria and partners like the BCCCI to work together to increase the visibility of this country’s higher education in China.
‘Education is among the key engines of our bilateral relations,’ the Minister pointed out. ‘Bulgaria is still reaping benefits from the fact that hundreds of foreign students who received their education here now occupy key positions in the public administration and private sector of their respective countries.’
The two sides also discussed the challenges and opportunities facing the business communities in both countries.
‘I assure you that in a bilateral format, we have been discussing the matter at all levels of contacts between us, whereas together with our EU partners we speak with China in a single voice, and our dialog has advanced to a serious stage,’ Minister Zaharieva emphasized.
