The Diplomatic Institute Gave its Annual Awards

26 November 2018 News

For the sixth consecutive year, the Diplomatic Institute gave its annual awards, bestowing one Bulgarian and one foreign citizen or institution that have contributed significantly to the development and reputation of the Institute. Today, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the guests of the ceremony celebrated the Diplomatic Institute’s 15th anniversary by displaying an exhibition of 15 canvases.

Italy’s ambassador to Bulgaria, Stefano Baldi, received the foreign citizen award. His Excellency Baldi was awarded for his contribution as a speaker and for the foreign policy expertise and practical experience he has shared. The Institute’s staff uses Stefano Baldi’s service as a diplomat as a shining example of successful blending of tools and practices employed by traditional diplomacy with those of digital diplomacy.

Тhis year’s Bulgarian recipient of the award was the Good Governance Directorate with the Council of Ministers, headed by Ms Irena Parvanova. The Directorate received the award as a result of their contribution within the framework of a two-year project aimed at the training of Bulgarian administrative and diplomatic officials and preparing them for the first Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The support and continued engagement of the Directorate toward this project helped over 3,000 central administration officials gain long-lasting expertise and experience in the field of good governance.

The award was a brass medal sculpture called Docendo discimus. It was named after the motto of the Institute: translated from Latin, it states ‘by teaching, we learn.’
