Bulgaria strongly condemns the missile launch conducted by the DPRK on 15 September 2017

15 September 2017 News

Bulgaria strongly condemns the missile launch conducted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on 15 September 2017.

Within less than two weeks the DPRK has made a second extremely serious provocation which raises the tensions in the region and threatens international peace and security. We strongly condemn this further violation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions. We welcome the unanimously adopted Resolution 2375 on 11 September 2017 imposing new sanctions on the DPRK, as well as the convening of an emergency session of the UN Security Council on North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile program today.

Bulgaria supports HR Federica Mogherini’s stated intent for a more active EU role in finding a peaceful solution to the crisis, as well as imposing additional EU autonomous sanctions and working in close cooperation with the international partners on the Korean Peninsula issues.

We insistently call upon the DPRK once again to stop immediately once and for all its nuclear and ballistic programmes in a complete and irreversible manner, fully complying with its international obligations, as well as to engage in a constructive dialogue with the international community in order to find a peaceful way out of the situation.
