The Top Diplomat of the Republic of Macedonia Nikola Dimitrov to Ekaterina Zaharieva: “Thank you, we did a fantastic job!”

01 August 2017 News

“Thank you, Ekaterina, and thanks to your entire team. We did a fantastic job. The Treaty will generate friendship and closeness. Today is a historic day,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia Nikola Dimitrov said, addressing Deputy Prime Minister for Judicial Reform and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva. The two conferred at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Skopje today.

Zaharieva is part of a government delegation led by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. Earlier in the day, Borissov and his counterpart Zoran Zaev signed a Treaty of Friendship, Good-neighbourliness and Cooperation between the two countries.

“Nikola, I, too, thank you and Prime Minister Zaev and the teams who finalised the texts yesterday. I firmly believe that if your neighbours are not well, you can’t be well yourself. As the EU said in its statement, this is ‘an inspiration for the whole region’. The effect of this Treaty has yet to be felt,” Ekaterina Zaharieva said.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister added that her country is ready to share expertise in the forthcoming reforms. “I hope that next year your negotiating process with the EU will at long last get off to a positive start. I would like to welcome your reform plan,” Zaharieva added.

“Bulgarian business is immensely eager to invest,” the Deputy Prime Minister also said. Minister Dimitrov invited her to visit Ohrid.
