Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the ballistic missile test launch by DPRK on July 28th, 2017

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria strongly condemns the ballistic missile test launch by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on 28 July 2017. Such actions which are in direct violation of multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions only lead to the escalation of tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
The Republic of Bulgaria continues to call upon the DPRK to abandon once and for all its nuclear and ballistic programme in a complete and irreversible manner, fully complying with its international obligations, and to commit to a meaningful and constructive dialogue with the international community in order to find a peaceful solution to the situation.
We welcome the deepening of the discussions on the Korean Peninsula situation between the EU and regional and international partners, including at the ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial meeting in Manila on 6-7 August 2017.
