Minister Daniel Mitov held a meeting with the Ambassador of China Zhang Haizhou

Minister of Foreign Affairs Daniel Mitov held a meeting today with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Bulgaria H.E. Zhang Haizhou. The talks focused on the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries and in particular the investment opportunities in infrastructure projects, transport, tourism and agriculture. Minister Mitov and Ambassador Zhang Haizhou agreed that the bilateral relations have witnessed positive development over the past two years and that the political dialogue has been intensified. Both diplomats expressed their readiness to continue the active cooperation in all spheres of mutual interest.

Minister Daniel Mitov pointed out that “Bulgaria has always been and seeks to remainAsia’s door to Europe”, given its geographic and political location. The Chinese representative praised our country’s role in the context of the China-CEE cooperation process (so called 16+1 format), including the 16+1 Agricultural Cooperation Centre established in Sofia. He highlighted also Bulgaria’s strategic importance in the One Belt One Road Initiative.

Minister Mitov and Ambassador Zhang Haizhou discussed also the Bulgarian candidacy for UN Secretary-General, which was identified by the Chinese side as “very strong”.

Ambassador Zhang Haizhou also announced that a Chinese Cultural Centre will be soon opened in Sofia.
