Position of the MFA on DPRK‘s intentions to launch an “earth observation satellite”

05 February 2016 News

We are deeply concerned over DPRK’s intentions to launch an “earth observation satellite” by using ballistic missile technology. Such action would clearly violate UN Security Council resolutions 1718 (2006), 1874 (2009), 2087 (2013) and 2094 (2013) and all international agreements. Such unlawful act would constitute a threat to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

We call on the DPRK authorities to reconsider this decision and to refrain from any other actions that would further increase tensions in the region, to implement fully its international commitments and to restore dialogue with the international community, including within the six-party talks.
