Bulgaria supports the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina

03 February 2016 News

Minister of Foreign Affairs Daniel Mitov voiced Bulgaria's support for the European path and the Euro-Atlantic perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a meeting with his Bosnian counterpart Igor Crnadak who is paying an official visit to Sofia on 2-3 February 2016.

The two chief diplomats discussed the friendly relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as ways to broaden the areas of bilateral cooperation and deepen dialogue in fields of mutual interest, including economy, culture and tourism.

Minister Mitov welcomed Minister Crnadak's participation in the Second Informal Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), held in Sofia under the auspices of the Bulgarian Chairmanship-in-Office. Bulgaria relies on the constructive role of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the regional cooperation, considering SEECP as the leading political format and regional platform for European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkans.

Minister Daniel Mitov reaffirmed Bulgaria’s consistent position with regard to the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina and expressed willingness to share experience in those fields.  "We have been working towards the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation in European and Euro-Atlantic integration between the two governments in the near future," Minister Mitov said.

The two chief diplomats underscored that Bosnia and Herzegovina is at a key point in its development in view of the upcoming submission of its application for EU membership. "This step, as well as the next steps requires serious work on the part of the national authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Republic of Bulgaria welcomes the constructive and timely commitment from political leaders in BiH to continue the reform process as set out in the adopted refom plan on the path towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration in the interest of all BiH citizens,” said Daniel Mitov.
