Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov to participate in Foreign Affairs and General Affairs Council Meetings

Minister Daniel Mitov will make a working visit to Brussels on 14-16 December to participate in the regular meetings of the Foreign Affairs Council and the General Affairs Council. On 14 December, Minister Mitov will participate in an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers, who will discuss the European Neighbourhood Policy, energy security and migration issues.

Before the Foreign Affairs Council meeting on 15 December, Minister Mitov will participate in a breakfast meeting of the ministers of the Group of Friends of Ukraine and Ukraine's Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin. Poland, Sweden and Denmark will be hosting the meeting.

The morning session of the meeting will focus on the situation in Syria and Iraq in the context of the fight against the Islamic State. During the working lunch, the 28 Foreign Ministers will discuss the situation in Libya and the EU's possible contribution to the efforts of the UN Special Representative for Libya, Bernardino Leon, to seek a political solution to the crisis in the country.

The agenda includes also discussion on the strategic regional aspects and the political aspects of the enlargement process, especially in the Western Balkans, with a focus on Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ukraine is on the agenda in light of the upcoming visit to Kiev of Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

On 16 December , Minister Daniel Mitov will participate in the morning session of the General Affairs Council, which will discuss enlargement, the EU's Stabilisation and Association Process, the Rule of Law Initiative, and the interinstitutional annual and multi-annual programming. During the working lunch, the ministers will discuss the preparation of the European Council on 18-19 December and the mid-term review of the Europe 2020 Strategy.
