Heavy traffic conditions in Slovenia

04 February 2014

Due to heavy snowfall and the low temperatures in Slovenia, the roads in some areas are icy. Vehicles are driving at low speed and with caution due to the increased stopping distances. Many secondary roads in the country are closed because of  fallen trees, power poles and broken wires, and in mountainous areas there is high risk of avalanches.

Particularly alarming is the situation in the northwest part of the country. The highway to the Karavanke tunnel is partially closed in either one direction, or the other.

Because of a severe storm, the main road Podnanos - Ajdovščina /to Italy,Trieste/ is closed to traffic for trucks with trailers, refrigerated trucks and vehicles with tilt up to 8 tons.

Closed roads :

- Slovenska Bistrica - Ptuj , due to fallen trees;

- Ljubljana - Kochevye - traffic is permitted for personal vehicles.

Difficulties at:

- Dolenjska highway /from Zagreb to Ljubljana/, there is closed lane in the area Grosuplje- Višnja Gora;

- Primorska highway /Ljubljana - Koper/ because of the removal of fallen trees at the turn of Postojna .

Due to the frequent power cuts, the lighting in the tunnels of the highways is bad.

In connection with the abovementioned, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends the Bulgarian citizens to ensure that roads are passable in Slovenia before traveling, to travel with caution and to follow the instructions of the road authorities and the police.
