The Honorary Consul in Bursa arrested

On December 29, 2010, in an operation by the Turkish police the Honorary Consul of Bulgaria to Bursa Hayati Korkmaz was arrested. The MFA expects to receive more information on the case by the Turkish authorities, but in any case the involvement of a Bulgarian Honorary Consul in such a scandal is unacceptable.
The status of Mr. Korkmaz will be reviewed and revoked if his participation in this criminal activity is proven.
Hayati Korkmaz was appointed Honorary Consul of Bulgaria to Bursa in 2004. He is a former member of the Turkish parliament from Bursa province (1995-2002). Born in 1957 in Ardino, but in 1973 emigrated to Turkey with his parents.
