Information for travelers to Slovakia

17 January 2013

Weather conditions in Slovakia have been complicated by heavy snowfall. Temperatures remain low even during the day, meaning that black ice can form. The roads are driveable in winter conditions, but motorists should drive with caution, especially in the mountainous areas around Banská Bystrica and Prešov Poprad.

The Shturets and Donovali mountain passes are closed to commercial vehicles over 10 metres.

The Chunovo – Raika border crossing between Slovakia and Hungary is closed to vehicles of more than 7.5 tons.

Authorities warn of possible delays or cancellations of flights and trains across the country. The weather forecast for the coming days does not envisage a significant change to the situation.
