Snowstorms in the Balkans
09 December 2012
Heavy snowfalls accompanied by high winds started yesterday throughout the Balkans. On the highway between Belgrade and Subotica in Serbia, an 11km-long column of cars, buses and lorries formed because a Bulgarian-registered lorry that overturned while attempting to plough ahead. Local authorities have removed the lorry but the movement of traffic continues to be severely affected by serious snowdrifts.
So far there are no reports of injured Bulgarian citizens, according to the Embassy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that travellers keep themselves informed in advance about the weather, be properly prepared for travelling in winter conditions and obey traffic rules.
