Measures against the Spread of COVID-19 in Spain17 March 2020
In connection with the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus in Spain in recent days, the central government and the governments of several autonomous regions adopted emergency measures aimed at limiting the spread of the virus. These include the closure of senior homes and the suspension of classes for college and school students in the Madrid and Basque autonomous regions, which are already identified as outbreak centers of the disease in the Kingdom of Spain. Some 1,200
people had been diagnosed with the COVID-19 by 10 March 2020 and 31 deaths of the virus have been confirmed. More than one-half of the infected who subsequently died were in the Madrid autonomous region. In view of the situation with the spread of the COVID-19 in the country, the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has raised the threat index for travel to Spain to Level 3: an advisory to refrain from traveling to certain regions unless necessary.
We are advising Bulgarian nationals to refrain from traveling to Spain unless absolutely necessary. Those who are already in the country should avoid visiting areas with great concentrations of visitors such as sports events, concerts, conferences and rallies among others.
If Bulgarians who are already in Spain should at any time experience such symptoms as fever of more than 37ᵒC, a persistent cough and difficulty breathing, they should not leave their homes or hotel rooms but immediately notify the local authorities by calling 112, or if in Madrid - 012 or 900102112.
Any Bulgarian national who wishes to raise questions, points of clarification or concerns about this issue can call the Bulgarian Embassy during business hours (9 am to 5 pm) at +34 913455761 or +34 913456651 or at the emergency number + 34 678013846 outside business hours, or may write to [email protected].
Reports and requests for assistance in emergency situations will be received from Bulgarians at the phone numbers of the Situation Center Directorate (+359 2 948 24 04; +359 2 971 38 56) or at the following e-mail: crisis@mfa.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on all Bulgarian nationals who are on a trip abroad to register by completing the “I am traveling to…” line at the following address:
