Minister Daniel Mitov held talks with US State Department Special Envoy for energy affairs

Minister Daniel Mitov welcomed today at the Foreign Ministry the Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs at the US Department of State Amos Hochstein. They discussed matters of common interest, including the Southern Gas Corridor, diversifying energy supplies and the EU strategy for energy security.

Foreign Minister Mitov expressed support for the full integration of the gas market in Central and Southeastern Europe in partnership with the neighboring countries and with the support of the European Union. Of particular importance for our country is the construction of the interconnector with Greece, said Minister Mitov, voicing confidence that the negotiations with the partners from Romania, Turkey and Serbia will also lead to improvements in the energy infrastructure and guarantee the security of the entire region.

Amos Hochstein emphasized the strategic role of Bulgaria in improving the energy map of the region and the EU as a whole. In this regard, he expressed willingness for future cooperation between Bulgaria and the US.
