28 May 2015 News

We highly appreciate the traditionally good relations with the UK and we hope that during your mandate the ties between our two countries will be further developed and enriched in all spheres of mutual interest. With these words Minister Mitov welcomed today at the MFA Her Britannic Majesty's Ambassador to Bulgaria Emma Hopkins.

Minister Mitov said that Bulgaria and the UK are facing many common challenges and the only way to resolve them is through the implementation of agreed positions and coordinated approach. We understand the need of reform in order to strengthen EU’s international presence, the Foreign Minister said, expressing willingness to cooperate with the British side in developing common strategy in that direction.

Ambassador Hopkins pointed out that priority task in her work in Bulgaria will be the development of both practical and political cooperation. Bulgaria is an important partner for us with key geographical location and I believe that strengthening the bilateral ties in areas such as rule of law and security will contribute to the consolidation of the democratic tradition in the whole region, said the British ambassador.

The Foreign Minister and Emma Hopkins exchanged views on a number of topical issues on the European agenda and discussed the outcomes of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga. They shared the opinion that the Eastern Partnership countries must find a common approach and determination to deal with the complicated international situation.
