17 February 2015 News

Minister Daniel Mitov held a meeting today with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to Sofia Mohammed Ali Said Al Nuaymi. They discussed the state of bilateral Bulgarian-Qatari political and economic relations and possibilities for their deepening.

Minister Mitov and Ambassador Al Nuaymi underscored the intensive dialogue at the highest political level, whose climax was last year's state visit of the President of the Republic to Doha. They discussed the possibilities to exchange visits at the level of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister Mitov invited his Qatari counterpart to visit Sofia.

With regard to the Bulgarian-Qatari economic ties, the two diplomats shared the view that the business climate, both in Bulgaria and in Qatar is favorable for investment by both sides. Qatari Ambassador expressed his gratitude for the excellent cooperation with the Bulgarian institutions and emphasized that this has positive impact on the Qatari investments in our country, adding that there are excellent opportunities for investment by Bulgarian companies in Qatar.

Minister Mitov and Ambassador Al Nuaymi exchanged views on the current situation in Syria, Iraq and the Middle East as a whole and shared the opinion that achieving a lasting peace in the conflict zones is a primary and immediate task of the countries directly concerned and the entire international community.

Bulgarian Foreign Minister referred to  the problem with the so-called "Islamic State" and underscored the need for strong and effective measures to eradicate this phenomenon by halting the funding of the terrorist group and limiting its influence through the global network on young people. Minister Mitov shared Bulgaria’s concern of the growing number of refugees, mainly from Syria, arriving as a result of the war with terrorists.  He emphasized that Bulgaria and the EU rely on the constructive and active role of Qatar for finding a lasting solution to this problem.
