Foreign Minister’s Meetings in Washington, DC

On the last day of his visit to Washington, Minister Daniel Mitov held a working meeting with Dr. Charles Kupchan, Senior Director for European Affairs at the US National Security Council and with representatives of think thanks in Washington.

On the agenda of talks were the crisis in Ukraine, measures to boost security along NATO's Eastern border, and the efforts of the international community to assist the Iraqi government in countering the ISIS threat.

Minister Mitov emphasized that Bulgaria's commitments as EU and NATO member are top priority of the caretaker government, especially in the context of the changed security environment in Europe and the Middle East and the resolutions at the NATO Summit in Wales. He pointed out that Bulgaria highly appreciates the bilateral relations and the strengthening of the strategic partnership with the US.

Minister Mitov held a meeting with Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski, Counselor and Trustee at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. The two discussed a number of issues including relations with Russia and possibilities to advance cooperation with the US.
