Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov visited the Bulgarian school in Washington, DC

Minister Daniel Mitov visited the Bulgarian Educational and Cultural Center "St.Kliment Ohridski " in Washington during the first day of his working visit to the US capital. Minister Mitov talked to students, parents, teachers and other representatives of the Bulgarian community about his priorities, including reaffirming Bulgaria's commitments as a responsible member of the Euro-Atlantic community, its participation in the NATO Summit in Wales and the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York. He pointed out that the main task of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the organization of October 5 parliamentary elections abroad and briefed those present about the Ministry's work in implementation of the Election Code.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister answered many questions related to Bulgaria's economic development and the job prospects in Bulgaria of young people studying abroad. Minister Mitov said the State should communicate more actively with expatriate Bulgarians.

The same day Daniel Mitov held working talks with John Hamre, President and CEO of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and Heather Conley, Senior Vice President for Europe, Eurasia, and the Arctic. The discussion focused on the international coalition's fight against the Islamic State, the Russia-Ukraine crisis and the concerted effort of the EU and the United States to guarantee Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, Trans-Atlantic relations, and the work of 69th Session of the UN General Assembly. John Hamre introduced the new lecture programme at the Center, to be directed by Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski, and invited Minister Daniel Mitov to read a lecture in the near future.
