Minister Daniel Mitov welcomed the mediation role of the OSCE in the crisis in Eastern Ukraine. He participated in the ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends of Mediation, which was dedicated to the role of regional organizations in the prevention and de-escalation of conflicts. The event took place on 26 September within the framework of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. It was attended by the Swiss President (OSCE Chairperson-in-Office), many foreign ministers and heads of regional organizations such as the OSCE and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development in Eastern Africa.
Bulgaria as one of the co-authors of all UN General Assembly resolutions on promoting the use of mediation, supported the efforts of the UN Secretary General to increase the capacity of the Organization for Mediation and emphasized the important role of the EU in the process. Minister Mitov focused on the importance of the OSCE mediation efforts in the crisis in Eastern Ukraine. He presented information regarding the expert and financial assistance that Bulgaria has provided to the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine.
