Minister Mitov met with the Ambassador of Hungary

Bulgaria and Hungary have developed excellent friendly relations based on common interests in many fields. The two countries have similar positions on a number of issues on the European agenda and should extend their cooperation within the EU, agreed Minister Daniel Mitov and the Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary András Klein during their meeting held at the Foreign Ministry on 16 September.

The Foreign Minister thanked on behalf of Bulgaria for the Hungarian state policy towards the Bulgarian minority in Hungary, which is an example of tolerance and kindness. Ambassador Klein noted that this year we mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Bulgarians in Hungary and the anniversary is celebrated in both countries with different cultural and scientific events.

Daniel Mitov and András Klein also discussed the relations with the countries of the Western Balkans. They emphasized that Bulgaria and Hungary as neighbors are actively supporting the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective of the region as an additional guarantee for its stability and security.

Among the topics of conversation was the situation in Ukraine and the development of EU-Russia relations. Bulgarian Foreign Minister and Hungarian Ambassador expressed hope that the reached  truce  will lead to permanent de-escalation of tensions and a political solution to the conflict. They emphasized that they expect from the Ukrainian authorities to guarantee the rights of minorities in the country, including Bulgarian and Hungarian.

Daniel Mitov and András Klein also exchanged views on the development of the situation in Iraq, noting the commitment of their countries to support the Iraqi Kurdistan in its fight against ISIL.
