N. Mladenov: Support for sustainable development of Least developed countries is our moral, strategic and economic imperative

On May 11, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nickolay Mladenov made a statement at the Forth UN conference on the Least Developed Countries in Istanbul. He reiterated Bulgaria’s commitment to international efforts for achieving the global targets set forth by the Millennium Development Goals.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined the need that support should be focused on sectors of immense significance such as education and health, and expressed Bulgaria’s willingness to share its experience. “Our point of view for the future of global partnership for development is that we should unite and harmonize the efforts of all interested parties, because global partnership now is more important than ever” emphasized Mladenov.

Within the forum the Minister of Foreign Affairs held a series of bilateral meetings with heads of delegations, which took part in the conference. Among the discussed matters was the Bulgarian candidacy for a judge in the International Court of Justice, bilateral issues, and the results and expectations of the conference in Istanbul.
