Minister Kristian Vigenin met today in Rome with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic Federica Mogherini. The two top diplomats discussed the good cooperation on key topics between Bulgaria and Italy within the EU and NATO.
Special attention was paid to the common positions that the two countries share as regards the EU enlargement policy and the Western Balkans. Minister Vigenin reiterated Bulgaria’s support for the candidacy of Franco Frattini for the post of NATO’s Secretary General. During the conversation, an emphasis was put on the joint work on the development of the EU immigration policy. Minister Mogherini informed her Bulgarian counterpart about the priorities of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union to be assumed in the second half of 2014.
Among the topics of conversation wasalso the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Italy, focusing on the opportunities to expand the cooperation in the field of economy and investment. Kristian Vigenin and Federica Mogherini exchanged views also on topical issues on the international agenda, including the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine.
