We attach great importance to the efforts of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to protect and promote our common European values. This was said by the Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin during the today’s meeting with Frano Matušić, rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on post-monitoring dialogue with Bulgaria. He expressed satisfaction with the fruitful cooperation with the Organization, pointing out his confidence that it will continue in the future.
"I expect that the our country's efforts will be appreciated and we will soon finalize the monitoring process," said Kristian Vigenin. According to the Foreign Minister, the areas monitored by PACE are also monitored by the EU under the Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification, and such duplication of powers does not make sense.
For his part Frano Matušić emphasized the readiness of PACE to complete the post-monitoring dialogue when Bulgaria presents sufficient arguments and information in that direction.
"Bulgaria is exerting and will continue to exert efforts in the problem areas, regardless of whether they are subject to monitoring by PACE," Kristian Vigenin pointed out. He expressed confidence that the meetings of Frano Matušić during his visit to the country will give a clear picture of the progress.
