IOM opens Canadian visa centre in Sofia

On August 6 2013, the mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Bulgaria is to open a Canadian visa centre in Sofia, 77 Tzar Asen Str. It will accept visa applications from Bulgarian citizens, as well as applications for travel documents from citizens who have permanent resident status in Bulgaria. The opening of the centre is a great relief for Bulgarians wanting to travel to Canada, because until now visa applications could be submitted only at the Canadian Embassy in Bucharest, because there was no such diplomatic mission in Sofia.
IOM is an intergovernmental, and global humanitarian organization specialisingin the field of migration management. The IOM Mission in Bulgaria aims to assist the government in developing and implementing migration policies that respond effectively to migration realities and challenges, seeking the optimal balance between the principles of free movement of persons, control of irregular migration and protection of the human rights of migrants.
