Following the detection of heavy smoke in parts of the Sofia, Kyustendil and Pernik regions in Bulgaria, caused by forest fires in the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs took urgent action to establish the circumstances surrounding the situation.
The Bulgarian diplomatic missions in Belgrade and Niš are in constant contact with the competent Serbian authorities. Our Embassy in Belgrade has delivered a note verbale requesting information on the location of the fire in the cross-border area. Assistance in extinguishing the fire has also been offered.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will keep the public promptly informed of any developments in the situation.
