02 June 2026 News

Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova held a telephone conversation with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi.

During the conversation, Minister Popșoi congratulated Velislava Petrova on her appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and wished her every success in the discharge of her duties. The two discussed the traditionally strong relations between Bulgaria and Moldova, founded on a longstanding partnership, close historical and cultural ties, and shared European values. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of the Bulgarian community in Moldova as a key factor in strengthening bilateral dialogue and fostering cooperation between the two countries. Minister Velislava Petrova expressed her appreciation to the authorities of the Republic of Moldova for honouring the political commitment undertaken with regard to the future of the Taraclia District. She noted that the proposed solution, which preserves the district’s territorial integrity, the powers of its administration, and the possibility of direct political representation for its citizens, creates optimal conditions for the further development of the Bulgarian national minority and for the full enjoyment of the ethnocultural rights of its members.

Bulgaria’s top diplomat also reaffirmed Bulgaria’s support for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova and expressed the country’s readiness to share its practical experience gained during the process of accession to the European Union.
