21 March 2026 News

Bulgaria, as a country not participating in the military actions of the United States of America and Israel against the Iranian regime, associates itself with the joint statement by the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan and Canada concerning the Strait of Hormuz, issued on 19 March 2026.

We align ourselves with the stated position, which condemns the recent attacks against unarmed commercial vessels in the Gulf, as well as against civilian infrastructure, including oil and gas facilities, which have in effect led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

In this context, we express our deep concern over the escalating conflict and call for an end to the laying of mines and other attempts to obstruct commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Maritime security and the freedom of navigation are beneficial to all countries, including the Republic of Bulgaria.

We welcome the readiness of the allied countries that authored the statement to contribute with appropriate measures to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. We also welcome the decision of the International Energy Agency to stabilise energy markets through the strategic release of oil reserves and other measures.
