Relations between Bulgaria and the United States are based on shared values and pragmatism

The history of bilateral co-operation shows continuous growth in a positive direction,” Minister Kristian Vigenin said at a meeting today with USAmbassador Marcie Ries. This year marks the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries and these relations really are very good. Our goal is to develop them further, Ambassador Ries said.
Kristian Vigenin and Marcie Ries agreed on the wish to expand contacts between Bulgariaand the United Statesin the field of economy and attracting investment. “The government's priority is the development of economic relations, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will intensify its efforts in this direction, as well as to attract more foreign investment," the Bulgarian Foreign Minister said.
Minister Vigenin emphasised that work on all joint projects between Bulgariaand the USwill continue. He and Ambassador Ries discussed the possibilities for deepening co-operation in the energy field. “Achieving energy diversification is important not only for Bulgariabut also for security and stability throughout the EU,” Kristian Vigenin said, and emphasised that the government is actively working in this regard.
Among the topics of the meeting were further co-operation in law enforcement, defence and security, and Minister Vigenin praised USsupport for the development of the capabilities and efficiency of Bulgariain this area. Kristian Vigenin gave an assurance that the position of Bulgaria in connection with the results of the investigation into the bombing attack at Sarafovo remains unchanged and said that the country wanted to accelerate the process of gathering additional evidence from foreign partners, from whom Bulgaria has requested legal assistance in the case.
