On 4–5 November 2025, a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Danube Region countries was held in Sarajevo within the framework of the 14th Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR). Bulgaria was represented by Mr Nikolay Pavlov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The discussions focused primarily on how the EU Strategy for the Danube Region can contribute to strengthening the political and geostrategic relevance of the EU enlargement process and accelerating European integration.
In his statement, Deputy Minister Pavlov emphasised that the EU Strategy for the Danube Region is an important instrument for implementing European values and policies at the regional and local level, promoting dialogue and cooperation among the countries of the region. He expressed support for the European integration of the Western Balkans, Ukraine and Moldova, underlining the importance of the principle of own merits and the political will for reforms, particularly in the field of the rule of law.
In the context of the forthcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region in 2026, Deputy Minister Pavlov noted that Bulgaria will focus on reducing regional disparities, improving transport connectivity, and developing the Danube–Black Sea axis as a strategic corridor for economic cooperation and sustainable development.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants adopted a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to a united, secure and prosperous Danube Region.
