Minister Georg Georgiev Reaffirms Bulgaria’s Consistent Support for Moldova’s European Future

On the second day of his working visit to Chisinau, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Georg Georgiev, held meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popşoi, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov.
During his discussion with Minister Popşoi, the two sides addressed prospects for deepening the bilateral dialogue and opportunities to expand cooperation between Bulgaria and Moldova in all areas of mutual interest. The meeting centred on Moldova’s European future and the excellent level of political dialogue between the two countries.
"The Republic of Bulgaria is among the strongest and most active supporters of the European integration of the Republic of Moldova," Minister Georgiev stated. "Stable, secure, politically independent, and prosperous countries in our immediate neighbourhood are of strategic importance to both national and regional security," he added.
The conversation with Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Ms Cristina Gherasimov, focused on specific forms of Bulgarian support for Moldova’s European integration. Discussions included the establishment of close institutional cooperation aimed at sharing Bulgarian experience, best practices, and lessons learned from Bulgaria's own pre-accession process to the European Union. Both sides also encouraged enhanced cooperation between local authorities.
Minister Georgiev commended the efforts of the Moldovan authorities in implementing the recommendations of the European Commission and emphasised Moldova’s commitment to a consistent reform agenda, focused on strengthening the rule of law, combating corruption, and building strong and resilient institutions.
