In connection with the information provided to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the death of a Bulgarian citizen employed within the United Nations system in Gaza today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of our compatriot.
This evening, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, held a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, Gideon Sa'ar. The Israeli Foreign Minister conveyed his condolences to the relatives of the deceased Bulgarian citizen and clarified that, according to information from the Israel Defence Forces, so far, the tragic incident is in no way connected to their actions by land, air or sea, but nevertheless, the investigation into the case continues until the final clarification of the causes of the incident.
The Bulgarian side also raised the issue of ensuring all necessary humanitarian measures, including those concerning the wounded UN staff. In this regard, Minister Georgiev was assured that the State of Israel is providing the necessary assistance.
