31 January 2025 News

Earlier today, Minister Georg Georgiev held a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, Gideon Sa’ar. They discussed the latest developments in the Middle East region, including the practical implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the release of all hostages. The Bulgarian Foreign Minister stressed that our country welcomed with great relief and joy the news of the release of 4 Israeli hostages yesterday, among them the Bulgarian citizen Daniella Gilboa. Bulgaria will continue to work in coordination with international partners and Israel for the release of all hostages held in Gaza. Bulgaria's unwavering solidarity with Israel's right to live in peace and guarantee the security of its citizens was reaffirmed. The hope and desire was expressed that, despite the challenges, the hard-won agreement would be implemented in its entirety, with a view to freeing all hostages, improving the humanitarian situation in Gaza and hoping for a process to establish peace and stability in the region.

In the course of the talks, the good pace of development of bilateral relations, which are strategic in nature, was noted and the mutual desire to further deepen the partnership in a number of areas of common interest was confirmed.

Bulgaria reaffirmed its support for a full-fledged EU-Israel Association Council to be held soon, which would give a positive impetus to the relations and an opportunity to expand EU cooperation with Israel.

In addition, Minister Gideon Sa'ar took the opportunity to congratulate Minister Georgiev on his recent appointment and wished him success in his highly responsible mission.
