On this day, 76 years ago, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. On this date, we celebrate International Human Rights Day, an occasion to recall the principles of the Universal Declaration and to try to do our part to put them into practice.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a historic document that is fundamental to all subsequent international human rights treaties. The Universal Declaration is the standard in the defence of the enduring, universal human values of freedom, equality, dignity and justice.
In its domestic and foreign policy, the Republic of Bulgaria adheres unconditionally to the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Republic of Bulgaria is a party to all major international human rights treaties and applies the highest standards in this area.
As a current member of the UN Human Rights Council, the Republic of Bulgaria contributes to maintaining dialogue and cooperation aimed at ensuring the effective enjoyment of human rights. This is essential to achieving lasting peace, security and prosperity for all humanity.
The Republic of Bulgaria pays special attention to the protection of the rights of women and girls, their empowerment, the protection of children, the right to education, the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in all areas of public life, as well as to countering discrimination, intolerance, hate speech and hate crimes.
