Following the talks on April 26 between Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Marin Raykov and Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, administrative and police authorities in northern Greece have decided, in view of the upcoming Easter holidays, to permit as of this afternoon the passage through Zlatograd-Xanthi border checkpoint of passenger vans carrying up to 15 people for tourism, so as not to hinder the free movement of people in the region. The measure has already taken effect.
As of this afternoon, facilitated passage is in effect for commercial vans with a tonnage of up to 3.5 tons, and it is expected that the limitation sign will be removed, subject to the condition that at the border checkpoint there will be strict checks on the goods transported and accompanying documents from Bulgaria to Greece, with the aim of preventing the entry of illegal goods for sale on Greek territory.
