25 September 2024 News

Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov met today in New York with the Deputy Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Ulrik Knudsen.

Ivan Kondov reaffirmed Bulgaria's ambition to complete the negotiations for accession to the OECD by the end of 2025 and to continue to work with perseverance and consistency to implement this major foreign policy priority.

Our first diplomat assured his interlocutor that our country is committed to implementing the OECD recommendations, which aim to further improve the economic stability, investment climate and living standards in Bulgaria, which will have a positive impact on the whole region of Southeast Europe.

Kondov also stressed that Bulgaria actively supports the regional initiatives of the OECD, especially the Regional Programme for Southeast Europe. He recalled that our country also supported the OECD Programme for Ukraine, as the National Assembly ratified the Agreement on Participation in the Programme on 23 April 2024.

Our Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude for the personal support and commitment in the process of Bulgaria's accession to the OECD, which we are receiving from the OECD Secretariat, the Review Committees and personally from the Deputy Secretary General Ulrik Knudsen, and confirmed the invitation to him for an official visit to Bulgaria.

Ulrik Knudsen, for his part, congratulated Bulgaria for the progress achieved in the negotiations and confirmed that their completion by the end of 2025 is our common goal.
