Minister Kondov attended in the EU-CELAC meeting

26 September 2024 News

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister took part today in the EU-Latin American and Caribbean Community (CELAC) meeting in New York. The meeting was co-chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borel, and the Foreign Minister of Honduras, and aimed at continuing the inter-regional dialogue and preparing for the EU-CELAC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the upcoming EU-CELAC Summit in 2025.

Ivan Kondov said in his speech at the forum that in today's complex circumstances, the partnership between the EU and CELAC is becoming stronger and more effective, providing us with tools to tackle common challenges and to promote stability, development and prosperity of our countries.

Our Foreign Minister underlined our country's support for all efforts to further strengthen relations between the EU and the CELAC countries in key areas such as trade, innovation, new technologies, science, culture, education, people-to-people contacts, climate change, etc.

Kondov also pointed out that our country supports the overall approach of the Pact for the Future, agreed a few days ago by world leaders at the UN, to prepare young people for future challenges, ensuring universal access to digital achievements and respect for human rights by strengthening global governance and efforts for peace and security. These initiatives are crucial to creating a just, stable and secure world for all.

Earlier in the day, Kondov also participated in the ministerial meeting on the emergency situation in Venezuela, jointly organised by the US Secretary of State and the Argentine Foreign Minister.
